A Paper Light Fixture
This project began with my introduction to the architecture of Eero Saarinen. His famous design for the TWA Flight Center included massive sweeping wings that embodied each of the center's flanking terminals. In designing this wall sconce I echoed Saarinen's design by creating wings that would diffuse the light of the bulb behind them. Investigating the relationship between form and material - in this case paper - I decided to employ the proportional system of the Golden Mean (ratio of 1:1.618) to give the lamp's 'wings' a more organic curvature.
